Councillors Elaine Atkinson and Mike White, Leader and Deputy Leader of Poole Council, were guests of the Harbour Commission on a tour of port facilities yesterday. They joined a visiting minister to celebrate the award of a £23.3 million government grant to improve access to the Port of Poole.
This will include deeper quays for larger ships and a range of improvements to transport links to the A31. A package of transport schemes will include refurbishment of the Old Bridge, improved access from Holes Bay Road, improvements to Gravel Hill and to the two roundabouts at Darby’s Corner and Dunyeats.
The award of the grant was announced by Transport Minister Baroness Kramer on a visit to Poole. Robert Syms, Conservative Member of Parliament for Poole, welcomed the announcement of new money for the Port of Poole: “The port is still very much a vital part of the local economy. This investment in infrastructure is very good news for the town.”
Elaine: “This is fantastic news for Poole. As well as creating jobs it should help unlock the regeneration sites and significantly improve access to the port."
