A team at Poole Hospital developed a new service model for pelvic floor care that has now won a national award. The team designed the model to improve assessment and treatment of pelvic floor conditions including incontinence and prolapse.
Sally Sheppard and her multidisciplinary team at Poole General Hospital replaced a fairly typical NHS care path for pelvic floor conditions, with waits of many months, by a system that offered early identification and treatment of symptoms followed by improved access to specialist care. Her team called their new model FAST, for Fast Assessment Start Treatment.
In May, the team was selected as a winner of the National Continence Care Award 2014. At a visit to congratulate the winning team, Robert Syms, our MP for Poole, said: "I was very impressed with the team working and the fact that the advances they made have been nationally recognised by awards. This is Poole Hospital at its best."
